The de La Valliere family…or not

I have always, …well, nearly always, or rather most of my adult life, wanted to research into my family tree. The Valliere branch being my first option due to the incredibly exciting story, & possibility, of being a descendant of King Louis 14th…. As I have never actually confirmed that my family are of this lineage, I can only sit & wonder – until this week that is.

I had a lovely e-mail from someone asking me how the business got it’s name, & were we part of the de La Valliere family. This has prompted me to do some digging & actually start that family tree.

Having been given family trees that other, older, members of my family have compiled I hope to have a good start, albeit these documents are NOT the Valliere trees, I have already e-mailed family in the States to start on my quest…..exciting!!
But I must not digress too much as I have some new designs to get created, old stock & samples to sell & a …do you think I will find time to try out my new surfboard??

  • I was also trying to find information about my name..I was googling my names for fun and found your store.

    I’m from the states.

my middle name is DeLaVallierre, but its my mother’s maiden name. Did you ever find anything?

    • Hi Amanda!

My family are from the States too, on the Valliere side. I have not found out a great deal, but do know that a house was left in Canada by a female Valliere, which she left for unwed mothers I think. There are a few Valliere’s around but I don’t think they are all from the same family. I must confess that I have not done as much as I would like, but I will!

Did you know that there is a place called Château-la-Vallière? I think King Louis 14th gave this/title to his mistress, Louise de La Valliere. It is beside a river, the castle has all but disappeared & the house Louise lived in was an elderly people’s home when I was last there about 7 or 8 years ago, but there was a large portrait of Louise hanging up. They had children & I think 2 were recognised as the Kings’, from what I have read, Louise loved him but went in to a convent; I have seen an artists drawing of the King trying to woo her back! He did have other mistresses, which was common in those days!

Do let me know about yours – which State are you in?
      Kindest
      Tracey
